Abstract
1,017,012. Discharge apparatus. SOC. DE TRAITEMENTS ELECTROLYTIQUES ET ELECTROTHERMIQUES. Jan. 21, 1964 [Jan. 22, 1963], No. 2695/64. Heading H5H. The temperature of an induction heated plasma is raised by causing a current to flow transversely through the ionized gas. As shown, an R.F. winding 1 surrounds a split conducting cylinder 2 which is doublewalled at the exit to form a flux concentrator. The two halves of the cylinder (and flux concentrator) are energized from a D.C. or A.C mains supply to pass heating current through the plasma. Alternative sections of the flux concentrator and corresponding induced current flow are illustrated in Figs. 2, 3, 4 (not shown). Ionization may be started by discharge between a removable electrode and the fixed electrode 51.
