Abstract
1,016,710. Compressors. ATLAS COPCO A.B. Sept. 28, 1964 [Oct. 3, 1963], No. 39487/ 64. Heading F1N. In a plant for obtaining dry gas, wherein a compressor 1 supplies gas through a heat exchanger 3, a cooler 4, a mechanical moisture separator 5, a silica-gel moisture adsorber 7, a check valve 8 to a consumer 10 and a main receptacle 11, the adsorber 7 and the separator 5 are periodically purged of moisture by automatically opening an electromagnetic valve 6 to allow compressed gas in an auxiliary receptacle 14 to pass through a pressure reducing restriction 13, the adsorber 7 and the separator 5 to a drain 18. The drain 18 may be connected to atmosphere, a condenser or a vacuum source. The gas in the auxiliary receptacle 14 is supplied by the compressor and is heated electrically, or as shown, by the heat of compression. The opening of the valve 6 is controlled by a switch 12 responsive to the pressure in the main receptacle 11 and also operative to stop the compressor motor 2. In an alternative plant (Fig. 3 not shown) a time controlled valve in a bypass line is opened simultaneously with the valve 6 and allows gas to pass from the main receptacle to replenish the auxiliary receptacle. In another plant a pair of moisture adsorbers each having an associated restriction and auxiliary receptacle are connected in parallel whereby the compressor may run continuously while allowing one or other of the adsorbers to be purged of moisture.
