Abstract
1,015,999. Transformers. WESTING- HOUSE BRAKE & SIGNAL CO. Ltd. Nov. 30, 1964 [Jan. 15, 1964], No. 1776/64. Addition to 958,235. Heading H1T. [Also in Division H3] To the arrangement described in the parent Specification, in which windings W1, W2 around the core C have either a low or high inductance depending on whether the flux due to the permanent magnet M and the control electromagnet EM assist or oppose in the limbs L3 and L4, is added a further similar core C1 and associated permanent magnet M1 which may have its polarity opposed to that of the magnet M (as shown) so that when the winding W1, W2 present a low inductance, the winding W3, W4 presents a high inductance and vice versa. The polarity of the permanent magnets M, M1 may be in the same sense in which case windings W1, W2 and W3, W4 have either a high or low inductance together. The polepieces P3, P4 are made of high remanence material so that the winding W1, W2 maintains the impedance imparted to it by the control current in winding W5 after this ceases, whereas the windings W3, W4 present a high impedance since the polepieces P7, P8 are made of low remanence material.
