Abstract
1,015,848. Counterbalancing. CARL ZEISS JENA VEB. Sept. 8, 1964, No. 36788/64. Heading B8B. In a counterbalancing system for slidable members 16 on the housing 1 of precision instruments in which a constant supporting force is applied by a tension spring 6 acting through tapes 8, 12 wound on a cylinder 9 and cam 11, the spring and cam unit is supported on a bearing body 2 which is mounted in the housing 1 and adsorbs the variable spring force so that constant forces only are applied to the housing 1 throughout the movement. The bearing body 2 is mounted at one end on a bracket 3 and is slidably supported at the other end by a ball joint 4. Adjustment of the supporting force is obtained by relative rotation of the cylinder 9 and cam 11 which may be coupled by a free-wheel coupling.
