Abstract
1,015,490. Collapsible tower cranes. VSESOIUZNY NAUCHNO - ISSLEDOVATEL'SKY INSTITUTE STROITEL' NOVO I. DOROZHNOVO MASCHINOSTROENIA. March 13, 1964, No. 10658/64. Heading B8B. A tower crane comprises a slewing platform 1 mounted on a wheeled carriage 2 with the tower 3 pivoted to the platform at 4 and held upright by a strut 5 attached to a rigid framework 6. A jib 7 (folding at a hinge 37) is pivoted at 30 to the tower 3 and may be luffed by a cable 8 whose two ends are attached to the jib 7 near its free ends. The cable 8 passes over pulleys 9<SP>1</SP>, , 10<SP>1</SP> and a pulley 11 on a block 15. A cable 21 from a luffing winch 24 passes over pulleys 16 on the block 15 and over pulleys 17, 22 being attached to the end of a strut 18 by its free end. A load carrying cable 26 passes from a hoisting winch 29 round a pulley 28, a pulley next to pulley 9, pulley 27, pulley 25 and back along a similar path to a drum on the luffing winch 24 so that when the jib 7 is luffed the load remains at the same height. To lower the crane for transport, cable 21 is paid out by the luffing winch 24 so that the jib 7 is lowered. When the jib 7 is horizontal the block 15 contacts an abutment 36 on a strut 12 carrying the pulleys 10<SP>1</SP>, 22, further lowering of the jib 7 resulting in pivoting the strut 12 upwards to finally come to rest against the top of the tower 3. In this position a cable 33 joining the jib 7 to the strut 12 is taut so that when the jib 7 is raised to erect the crane the strut 12 is pivoted downwards.
