Abstract
1,014,557. Welding by pressure. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. March 13, 1964 [March 18, 1963], No. 10740/64. Heading B3R. Heat concentrating device for use in highfrequency current welding of a gapped tube comprises a body 2, 3 of magnetic material surrounded by a cage formed by a number of perforated pipes 4 connected to a coolant supply. The magnetic body comprises cylinders 2, 3 of magnetic material held together by a ceramic ring 9 pressed by a nut 10. The pipes 4 of copper are brazed at one end to a brass housing 6 supplied with cooling liquid which flows out of perforations 5 in the tubes on to the magnetic body. A perforated tube 1 is also connected to the housing 6 to provide internal cooling of the magnetic body. The edges of the tube 11 to be welded are flanged upwardly.
