Abstract
1,013,201. Yarn winding-apparatus. ERNEST SCRAGG & SONS Ltd. April 16, 1962 [April 15, 1961], No.13670/61. Heading D1J. Apparatus for winding yarn comprises a driving-shaft coupled to the winding-means, cam means for relatively reciprocating the winding- means and a yarn guide to lay the yarn and mechanism to disturb the relative movement to prevent ribbon-winding, the cam-means and the distributermechanism being mounted on the driving-shaft. As shown, the winding apparatus is part of a false-twist crimping machine, having stations arranged side by side in rows, there being two such rows at each side of the machine. For each superposed pair of rollers there is a pair of niprollers withdrawing yarn from one or a pair of supply packages to false-twist spindles each associated with a drum-winder having a reciprocated yarn distributing guide. The guides are on rods carried by cross-headers 44, 45 Fig. 2, the drums are on shafts 21s... 24s and the nip-rollers on shafts 35<SP>1</SP>, 36<SP>1</SP>. These shafts are driven through toothed and chain-and-sprocket gearing from a sprocket 25, not shown, on the end of a shaft 19 which is geared to a pulley 11, Fig. 5B. This projects below a casing provided with a lubricating- oil-trough 15, and is driven by a belt which also drives the false-twist spindles by tangential contact. Loosely mounted on the shaft 19 is a sleeve on which are rotatably mounted a cam 39 for reciprocating the cross-headers and pattern breaking mechanism. This comprises a gear K connected to a cam at K<SP>1</SP> and where rotational speed is compounded of two factors: a constant speed derived from a gear E driven at constant speed, and a variable speed derived from an arcuate member L pivotally connected at L<SP>1</SP> to the gear K and having a projection into an eccentric cam-groove O in gear J which is also driven at constant speed from gear E, but at a different rate from gear K. The cam and gear K are rotatably mounted on the sleeve, but gear J is keyed to it: the connection of these gears with gear E is through a gear-train including a double compound meshing with gears J, K, the ratios between the gears J, K, and the compound being different. The pin K<SP>1</SP> connecting the cam to the gear K extends through a circumferential slot in gear K.
