Abstract

The invention comprises compounds of the formula <FORM:1012955/C2/1> wherein R represents an alkyl group of 1 to 5 carbon atoms, R1 represents a hydrogen atom or an aryloxy group, R11 represents a methylene or carbonyl group and X represents a hydrogen atom or a hydroxyl group, and the preparation thereof by reacting a compound of the formula <FORM:1012955/C2/2> where X1 represents a hydrogen atom or a hydroxyl or acyloxy group with a cyanogen halide and reacting the resulting N-cyanide with an acid or an alkali. (-) - 3 - Methoxy - 6 - oxo - 14 - hydroxy - N -acetylmorphinan (cis) is formed, in addition to the N-unsubstituted compound, when (-)-3-methoxy - 6 - oxo - 14 - acetyloxy - N - cyanomorphinan (cis) is reacted with acid or alkali.
