Abstract

A process for the production of a polyamide comprises polymerizing e -caprolactam in the presence of a catalyst made by reacting e -caprolactam with one or more polybasic inorganic acids. Specified acids are pyrophosphoric, orthoarsenic, pyroarsenic, metaarsenic, orthoboric and pyroboric acid.ALSO:A process for the production of a catalyst compound comprises reacting e -caprolactam with a polybasic inorganic acid. Specified acids are pyrophosphoric, ortho-arsenic, pyro-arsenic, meta-arsenic, orthoboric and pyroboric acid. The catalyst is preferably made by dissolving e -caprolactam in aliphatic or aromatic hydrocarbon and reacting the resultant solution with the acid(s). The examples describe the reaction of e -caprolactam dissolved in benzene or water with each of the above specified acids.
