Abstract

The invention comprises 2b -azido-3a ,17b -dihydroxy - 5a - androstane, 2b - azido - 3a ,17B-diacetoxy - 5a - androstane, 2b - azido - 3a ,17b -di - p - toluenesulphonyloxy - 5a - androstane, 2b - azido - 3a - hydroxy - 17b - p - toluene-sulphonyloxy - 5a - androstane 2b - azido - 3a -hydroxy - 17 - oxo - 5a - androstane, 2b - amino-3a ,17b - dihydroxy - 5a - androstane, 2b - acetylamino-3a ,17b -dihydroxy-5a -androstane and 2b -acetylamino - 3a ,17b - diacetoxy - 5a - androstane, and a process for preparing a 2b -amino-3a -hydroxysteroid of the adrostane series which comprises reacting a 2a ,3a -epoxysteroid of the androstane series with hydrogen azide or an alkali metal azide and reducing the resulting 2b -azido-3a -hydroxysteroid of the androstane series with a metal hydride. As alkali metal azide, there may be used sodium azide, and the reduction may be effected with lithium aluminium hydride in an inert organic solvent.
