Abstract

1,011,416. Liquid-heating boilers. R. GOSSALTER. May 16, 1962 [May 16, 1961], No. 18811/62. Heading F4A. An oil-fired boiler arranged for the heating of at least one liquid has a horizontal doublewalled fire tube 7 surrounded by a wall 6 of generally frusto-conical shape forming the inner wall of a liquid heating compartment and an outer casing 1 spaced from a surrounding the external cylindrical wall 4 of the liquid compartment. The combustion gases flow through the fire tube 7, then in the reverse direction in the annular space surrounding the tube 7 and finally, after a second reversal, through the annular space between the outer casing 1 and the outer cylindrical wall 4 to a flue pipe 12. The liquid space as shown is subdivided by an internal cylindrical wall into two heating systems, one for hot tap water and the other being connected to a closed space heating system 25. Water for the latter enters the boiler at 18 and flows downwardly in the pipe 20 into the annular space 17 which communicates at the burner end with the interior of the fire tube 7 and with the outlet connection 24. Tap water enters the remaining space around the partition wall 6 at 26, a baffle plate 28 diverting the incoming stream of cold water to prevent erosion of the wall 6. To prevent resonant vibrations of the tubular parts the fire tube 7 and the partition wall 6 may be mounted eccentrically (Fig. 2, not shown). In a modification (Fig. 3, not shown) the boiler is provided with two double-walled fire tubes one inside the other.
