Abstract
1,011,104. Cold and heat accumulating apparatus; refrigerating. BRONSWERK N.V. Aug. 15, 1962 [Aug. 17, 1961], No. 31279/62. Headings F4H and F4U. Cold or heat accumulating balls 3 are carried through the conduits 1 of a heat exchanger by the cooling or heating medium 2. As shown in Fig. 2, each ball 3 comprises a thin wall 5 which encloses a salt 4 having crystallization water which is released when the transition temperature is exceeded. Alternatively the balls are filled with a eutetic mixture. Groups of balls containing substances having different transition temperatures may be used in the heat exchanger to satisfy different modes of operation and the balls of each group may be of different size so that any one group may temporarily be removed using a sieve. The balls may occupy up to 40% of the volume of the heat exchanger.
