Abstract
1,011,101. Ingot strippers. DEMAG A.G. July 17, 1962 [Aug. 1, 1961], No. 27496/62. Heading B3F. [Also in Division F2] In a mechanical stripper drive a two-speed planet gear is provided between a driving motor 7 and a shaft 9 which drives a ram (Fig. 1, not shown), and the gear comprises two sunring planet trains 15, 17 in series, the integral ring gears of which may be held by a brake 6 for low ratio, whilst the planet carrier 13 of the first train fast with a sun gear 14 of the second train may be held by a brake 6 for high speed ratio. The first train is completed by a sun gear 11 connected through a universal joint 10 to the motor 7 and the second train is completed by a planet carrier 18 fast with the shaft 9. The planet gear and motor 7 are mounted on a plate 1 axially positioned with respect to a plate 2 by springs (Fig. 1, not shown). The stripper ram is driven under no-load conditions at the higher speed and when the ram contacts an ingot the gear ratio is automatically changed to the lower ratio by means, not described, in response to either the increased motor torque or the spring tension. For gripping an ingot the direction of the motor 7 is reversed to drive the shaft 9 in the opposite direction which then acts through the ram on tongs (Fig. 1, not shown).
