Abstract
1,010,040. Automatic voltage regulation. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. Feb. 3, 1964 [Feb. 6, 1963], No. 4461/64. Headings G3R and G3X. A voltage regulator comprises input terminals 2, 0, output terminals 22, 20, a series n.p.n. transistor 1 the base voltage of which is controlled in accordance with input and/or output voltage variations, and an electrode tube 3 having its anode connected to terminal 2, its cathode connected to the collector of transistor 1, and its control grid connected to the emitter of transistor 1. As shown, the circuit for sensing the output voltage and for controlling transistor 1 includes a voltage divider 18, 19, 21, a double triode 6, 7, and a further transistor 4. Supplementary voltage sources 11 and 15, associated with stabilizing gas-discharge tubes 8, 13, 17 provide operating voltages for the tubes 3, 6, 7. It is stated that the provision of the tube 3 results in the arrangement having a high stabilization factor with a loop amplification of about unity; moreover the greater part of the voltage drop across the series element is set up across the tube, allowing the transistor 1 to operate under favourable conditions. Specifications 751,679 and 752, 031 are referred to.
