Abstract

The invention comprises anthraquinone oxidiazole dyes having the general formula <FORM:1009929/C4-C5/1> in which R1 represents a methyl group which may be substituted or a halogen free aliphatic residue having at least two carbon atoms or a styryl residue, R2 is the same as R1 or may be an aromatic or heterocyclic residue. In particular R1 may be an alkyl, alkoxyalkyl, phenoxymethyl, styryl or carboxyalkyl residue having 2-8 carbon atoms. The dyes are obtained by acylation of 2,5-di-(11,41-diamino 21-anthraquinonyl)-1,3,4-oxdiazole in one or two stages at high temperatures using organic solvents, with or without an acid binding agent. Acylation is effected by using two molecular proportions of one acylating agent or one molecular proportion each of two different acylating agents which give the required values of R1 and R2. Heterocyclic acylating agents used are the carbonylic acid halides of furan, thiophene, thiazole, triazole, pyridine and quinoline. Cotton is dyed red-blue shades with these dyes.ALSO:Cotton is dyed with anthraquinone-oxdiazole vat dyes of general formula <FORM:1009929/D1-D2/1> in which R1 is a methyl group which may be substituted or a halogen-free aliphatic residue which contain at least two carbon atoms or a styryl residue e.g. an alkyl, alkoxyalkyl, phenoxymethyl, or styryl or carboxyalkyl residue containing 2-8 carbon atoms, and R2 has the same meaning as R1 or represents an aromatic or a heterocyclic residue.
