Abstract

1,009,870. Magnetrons. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. April 25, 1962 [April 27, 1961], No. 15776/62. Heading H1D. A magnetron has an annular anode structure comprising a given number of anode segments 20, Fig. 1, 87, Fig. 2, and a cylindrical cathode 91, Fig. 3, having the same number of protruding portions 92 so positioned as to concentrate the electric field between the anode and the cathode on to the protrusions 92; the ratio of the diameter of the cathode 91 to the inner diameter of the anode structure lies within the range [N-(1À5 to 2.5)]/[N+ (1.5 to 2.5)], where N is the number of anode segments. The protrusion 92 may be coated with an electron emitting material, and the portions 93 with an insulator. The protrusions 92 are preferably rotationally displaced w.r.t. the anode segments 87. Cooling pin 16, Fig. 1, may be included within the magnetic return path 72.
