Abstract

1,009,416. Card orientation device. INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORPORATION. Sept. 7, 1964 [Sept. 30, 1963], No. 36632/64. Heading G4T. A detent 24 with a projection 40 biased into the path of a moving card or watchman's badge obstructs the path if the card is incorrectly oriented as determined by an indentation 18 in the leading edge of the card. In a first embodiment the detent is spring biased and during correct orientation the leading edge 42 cams the detent 24 out of the path of the card whilst the projection 40 passes through the indentation 18. The indentation 18 may be towards the middle of the edge 42 or a cut-off corner. In a second embodiment the two oppositely angled portions 24, 40 of the detent are spaced apart transversely on a gravity biased lever pivoted on a frame above the feed channel 16 (Fig. 5, not shown).
