Abstract
A method of producing solid check samples of a metal whereby a quantity of molten metal is sucked from the furnace bottom 1 below the slag layer into a water cooled chill mould 8. When the metal in the mould has solidified the mould bottom 10 is displaced to permit final cooling by means of a spray 36. The sample is then transferred by gripping means 33, 34, to a conveyer 47 for transportation to the laboratory.
