Abstract

A non-sticky moulding composition comprises mineral and/or organic fibres together with a mixture of an amorphous polyester resin, a crystalline polyester resin and a mineral filler. The amorphous polyester resin is a mixture of a copolymerizable liquid monomer with an unsaturated amorphous alkyd resin which is the reaction product of maleic acid with a glycol and the crystalline polyester resin is a mixture of a copolymerizable liquid monomer with an unsaturated crystalline alkyd resin which is the reaction product of a transisomer of an unsaturated dicarboxylic acid with a symmetrical glycol. The mineral filler may be talc, kaolin, silica or calcium carbonate and the preferred mineral fibres are glass fibres which may be in the form of a roving. In the examples:-(1) the crystalline alkyd resin is formed from ethylene glycol, succinic acid and fumaric acid, the comonomer is diallyl phthalate, the mineral filler is Blanc Omya and magnesium stearate is also added. Glass rovings are drawn through the crystalline and amorphous resin mixture with fillers and catalyst; (2) The filler is calcium carbonate.
