Abstract

100,637. Metallurgical Co. of America, (Assignees of Haley, D. F.). June 4, 1915, [Convention date]. Surface-tension separating processes and apparatus.-In a flotation process and apparatus, oiled pulp from a feed-box 3 passes to a centrifugal pump 5, which may effect partial aeration, and is discharged through a nozzle 9 on to the surface of a confined body of liquid in a vessel 10 mounted in a flotation vessel 11. The froth is removed at an adjustable outlet 12 by slowly rotating blades 17, and tailings are discharged into a launder 21 at such a rate as to permit some liquid and intermediate matter to overflow at an adjustable outlet 26 below the level of the froth outlet, such material being fed to the next unit in the plant, and so on. The froths are collected in a launder 15 and may be re-treated in a similar plant. The pulp may be acidified and heated.
