Abstract
1,006,366. Reinforced tubular films; laminates and laminating. W. MULLER. Dec. 7, 1962 [Dec. 9, 1961], No. 46213/62. Headings B5B and B5N. A multi-layer film 5 with a netlike reinforcement is made by extruding a tubular film, expanding it by inflation to the required diameter, winding a plurality of threads in opposite senses around the tube to form a net-like reinforcement, extruding a second tubular film around the reinforced first film, and welding the two films by heating. Apparatus as shown comprises an axial extrusion head la, at least two counter-rotating bobbin holders 3, 4 located axially thereto, each bobbin holder being coaxial with and rotatable around the primary film and carrying synthetic resin, textile, glass or metal threads, and a second axial extrusion head 6 behind the bobbin holders, for extruding the second film. An axially displaceable cooled counterpressure ring 8 is provided to counteract the internally applied welding pressure. A filmcarrier 7 provides an air cushion which serves to cool the film and prevent it sagging, prior to reeling. The films may be of p.v.c., high and low-pressure polyethene, polystyrene, poly. amides, or cellulose acetate. The inner and outer films may be of different kinds.
