Abstract
1,004,754. Electronic switching circuits; pulse multiplex circuits. ADAGE Inc. Dec. 27, 1962, No. 48724/62. Headings H3P, H3T and H4L. An electronic switch or gate is controlled by an energy storage device which, when a control signal is of one polarity, charges and when the signal is of opposite polarity discharges through the switch to render it conductive, diodes being provided to isolate the capacitor from the control signal source during the conductive period of the switch. Fig. 1 shows a transistor 12 operating in the inverse manner (i.e. with the functions of emitter and collector interchanged) to connect input signal terminals 11, 11<SP>1</SP> to output terminals 21, 21<SP>1</SP>. When the output from a bistable control circuit 15 is positive a capacitor 14 is charged through a circuit 16, 17, 22 and the transistor is non-conductive. When the signal from the control circuit is negative diode 16 is cut-off to isolate the control circuit from the transistor and the capacitor discharges through the base-collector circuit of the transistor rendering the transistor conductive until the control circuit changes over again. When the transistor is conductive diode 22 remains conductive but is of high impedance. In Fig. 3, isolation of the input terminals from the transistor is provided during both " on " and " off " periods. When the control voltage from 62 is positive the capacitor 72 charges through the circuit 70, 78, 74, 68, and the transistor is non-conducting and diodes 86 and 88 isolate the control circuit from the transistor. When the control voltage from 62 is negative, diodes 68 and 70 are non-conductive and the capacitor discharges through the circuit 76, 86, the collector-base path of the transistor 88 and 80, rendering the transistor conducting. In Fig. 4 (not shown) the transistor circuit is replaced by a diode bridge gate. A pulse multiplex system may utilize a number of the gates to connect a plurality of analogue signals in turn through an amplifier to a common output line, negative feed-back being provided between the output of the amplifier and the input of each gate (Fig. 2, not shown).
