Abstract

A white-firing kaolinitic clay is produced by subjecting a kaolinitic clay slurry to a non-homogeneous magnetic field having an average strength of at least 10,000 gauss in order to separate paramagnetic (e.g. ferruginous particles therefrom. A suitable apparatus is described in Specification 768,451. The particle size is preferably 5-75 m . The slurry concentration may be e.g. 20-30% solid. The clay slurry may be so treated by flow separation, possibly more than once, or by stationary separation.
