Abstract

1,004,363. Aerosol containers. P. MESHBERG. May 7, 1963 [May 7, 1962], No. 18085/63. Heading FIR. A resilient, shock absorbing housing 14, Fig. 1, e.g. of polyethylene, for a frangible aerosol container 10, e.g. of uncoated glass, has a closure 18 located by tongues 21, 22 and preventing ejection of the valve assembly 12 on breakage, and a valve actuating and dispensing assembly 30. Housing 14 has slots 17 for viewing the container contents, which may be fitted with shutters and also serve to vent the housing when breakage occurs. Dispensing assembly 30 is mounted on valve operating stem 13 and is slidable relative to closure 18. The container contents are discharged via a nozzle 33 and a sleeve 35 extendable from its retracted position shown, and guided by tongue and groove means. Sleeve 35 has a removable cap 40 and, when in its retracted position, prevents actuation of valve stem 13. In the embodiment of Fig. 9, e.g. for mouth or eye medication, dispensing head 230, e.g. of oval cross-section, is fixed to housing 214, and container 10 is movable within housing 214 by button 216 to operate valve stem 13. In another embodiment, this dispensing head is slidable relative to the housing to operate the valve stem. In the embodiment of Fig. 10, dispensing head 319 is slidable within housing 14 to operate valve stem 13, and has a hemispherical upper portion 320. Sleeve 328 is slidably guided on head 319 by tongue and groove means, so as to be movable from its inoperative position shown, to a position in alignment with nozzle 327. A removable cap 332 is provided.
