1,003,613. Rotary-piston I.C. engines. GOETZEWERKE FRIEDRICH GOETZE A.G. May 9, 1963 [Aug. 4, 1962], No. 18432/63. Heading F1F. A radial-seal assembly for each apex or corner of a piston 2 in a rotary-piston I.C. engine of the trochoidal n and n+1 lobe type comprises a carrier strip 4 slidably lodged in an axially-extending groove 5 and biased outwardly by a compression spring 8, and a sealing strip 3 having a substantially U-shaped cross-section and biased outwardly by a compression spring 7 which engages with the outer edge of strip 4 whereby radial oscillations of strip 3 are damped, the mass of strip 4 being preferably equal to or greater than that of strip 3: The radially outermost portion of strip 3 may be made of wear resistant material whereas the side portions of the strip are made of light metal. Alternatively the outer surfaces of strip 3 may be coated with wear resistant material. Strip 3 may be fabricated from two or more machined parts, or it may be made by bending sheet-metal strip to the required shape.
