Abstract
1,002,867. Preserving vegetable matter. P. R. BIGGS. Nov. 15, 1963, No. 45252/63. Addition to 939,932. Heading A2D. The preservative medium for cut flowers and picked fruit described and claimed in the present Specification is improved or modified by providing additionally one or more of the following compounds: sodium meta-bisulphite as a fermentation and mould inhibitor rendering the majority of metals non-toxic to cut flowers, so that cut flowers may be arranged in metal holders without ill-effect on the flowers, and 8- hydroxy quinoline sulphate or 8-hydroxy quinoline potassium sulphate for keeping clear and unclouded an aqueous solution of the preservative medium and also prolonging the life of certain varieties of cut flowers. The preservative medium may be provided in powder form. Detailed formulations are disclosed.
