Abstract

1,001,808. Drying-apparatus. M. F. MARCONI. March 2, 1964, No. 8729/64. Heading F4G. Apparatus for drying tea comprises a drying chamber supplied with hot air through an aperture 4, Fig. 1, and exhausted through an outlet 13, through which chamber the tea is conveyed on tiltable trays 28 carried by a pair of endless chains from a loading station having a hopper 18 and levelling device 20 outside the drying chamber, to an unloading chamber 8 outside the drying chamber which has a hopper 9 and two fixed stop members (not shown) spaced apart from each other to tilt the trays twice during their travel through the unloading chamber. An inclined floor 15 is mounted between the lower edges of the aperture 4 and an outlet aperture 7 in an end wall 2 of the drying chamber adjacent the unloading chamber 8. Each tray 28 has a perforated bottom 62, Fig. 3, and the sides are formed by members 59 having sleeves 60 which are mounted on one end of spindles 26, the other end of which mount guide rollers 29 and the links 27 of the endless chain, the rollers being adapted to roll on chain guides 30 formed in the side walls of the drying chamber.
