Abstract
1,001,679. Girders. J. MARCHAND. March 19, 1963 [March 20, 1962], No. 10728/63. Heading E1K. A channel gider is provided with protusions 4 having a face 6 parallel to the web 12 on the opposite side to the flanges 14, 16 by pressing out the web 12. A composite girder is formed by welding the faces 6 of two channels together and connecting the ends by U-shaped spacers 9. The flanges 14, 16 and 13, 15 of two composite girders may be welded together to form a larger gider. The channels, may also be welded together by means of pressed out flat topped domes on the same side as the flanges, the flanges of the channels either overlapping or being bent inwards to face each other. When subject to high temperatures, gaps are left between flanges by welding them together by means of joggled parts 17 and an outer flange is cut away in a sinusoidal curve so that the two flanges have equal exposed surfaces.
