Abstract

1,001,311. Valves. C.A.V. Ltd. Nov. 28, 1961 [Nov. 29, 1960], No. 40926/60. Heading F2V. [Also in Division F4] A valve in a liquid fuel torch (see Division F4) comprises a valve stem f and closure member e both formed from magnetic material and contained within a non-magnetic tubular body c having a different thermal expansion from the stem f and surrounded by a heating, magnetizing and fuel igniting coil h. The stem f having discharge orifices g screws into the body c causing the member e which may be spherical or conical to close on to a seat d intermediate the ends of the body c. When the coil h is energized, the valve opens due to the different thermal expansions and the magnetic attraction between member e and stem f overcomes any sticking tendencies. The fuel flowing through the open valve is controlled upstream by an adjustable member m and a seating o. The upper end of the coil h is connected to an insulated terminal i and the lower end is secured to the tubular outer casing a of the torch.
