Abstract
Cyclopentadienyl thallium and substituted cyclopentadienyl thallium compounds are prepared by reacting a cyclopentadiene or substituted cyclopentadiene with an undissolved thallium salt in the presence of a basic liquid having a pkb up to 5. Suitable thallium salts include the bromide, iodide, thiocyanate and preferably the chloride, TlCl. Specified bases include aqueous inorganic bases for example alkali or alkaline-earth metal hydroxides and ammonia, and strong organic bases for example primary, secondary and tertiary amines. The base should be chosen according to the Tl+ concentration in the reaction mixture so that the cyclopentadienyl concentration produced thereby is sufficient to obtain values above the solubility product of the organo-thallium compound.
