1,000,472. Measuring moisture content electrically. BRITISH-AMERICAN TOBACCO CO. Ltd. Jan. 15, 1963 [Jan.29, 1962],No.3307/62. Heading G1N. An apparatus for measuring the moisture content of loose material e.g. tobacco comprises a shaking conveyer 6 composed of a plurality of V shaped channels 9 which merge into channels 10 and guide the material which passes in an even carpet over a measuring head 3 comprising capacitor plates 2 which produce a curved electrostatic field traversed by the tobacco. The speed of a removal conveyer 15 is so adjusted that the depth of the carpet tobacco remains undisturbed during its passage over the measuring head.
