Abstract

1,000,457. Air filters. J. B. THOME & SON Ltd. Nov. 16, 1962 [Nov. 17, 1961], No. 41227/61. Heading BIT. An air filter element, comprising a row of inward flow pockets 7, Fig. 7, is formed by folding a sheet of filter material 20, Fig. 2, along a line 21 and the two layers are then stitched together along a line 22 near fold line 21, along lines 23 near the longitudinal edges of the layers and along longitudinal spaced parallel lines 24 terminating short of the free edges 26 of the layers thereby providing a common outlet for the pockets which is secured to a rubber rim 28. The pockets 27 are held distended by perforated tubular members 29, Fig. 5 (not shown), and a plurality of such elements are suspended from the apertured top plate 32 of a filter compartment 36 by engagement of each rim 28 beneath a downwardly and inturned portion 38 of a flange 37 projecting upwardly from the aperture in plate 32. The base of each element is secured by a transverse rod 34 inserted in a hem 25 and passing beneath a transverse rod 35 which may be shaken to effect cleaning of the elements.
