[Also in Division F2] A sealing member, e.g. a piston ring or a sealing strip for rotary piston engines, is formed in its running surface with one or more grooves containing a mixture of one or more iron nitrides and a heat resistant binding agent. The binding agent may be organic or inorganic, e.g. a thermosetting synthetic material or a silicate. The mixture may be formed by mixing an iron nitride powder with the binding agent to form a paste which is then introduced into the grooves in the sealing member and the assembly is then heated. Graphite may be added to the mixture.
