Abstract

The method involves realizing an opening/closing sequence of one of an exhaust valve (18) or an admission valve (30) during an admission phase and an exhaust phase of a four-stroke diesel type internal combustion engine, where the valve is in the close position. Another opening/closing sequence of the valve is realized during the phases. A raise rule of the other valve is modified during the phases to control the quantity of the exhaust gas in a combustion chamber (12) of a cylinder (10) of the engine.
