Abstract

Description

The invention relates to a brush, such as a brush. However, although more particularly intended for such applications, the invention may also be used to define any type of brushing tools using metallic fibers, in particular for their abrasive role.

Thus, the invention may find its applications in the most varied fields: restoration of old objects, maintenance of firearms, plumbing, or others.

The invention also relates to a method of manufacturing such a brush.

Currently, steel wool pads, known as fibers juxtaposed with each other, are known for brushing objects whose surface condition is deteriorated.

However, these pads are ineffective vis-à-vis objects having tubes, interstices, fine moldings or other inaccessible places, because of their too great flexibility, even softness, and their defibration.

The object of the invention is to provide a brush, such as, in particular, a brush, based on metal fibers, thus a method of manufacturing such a brush, which overcomes the aforementioned drawbacks and makes it possible to intervene with said metal fibers at level of places difficult to access.

One of the aims of the present invention is to provide a brush, the active part of which has good rigidity and good resistance to defibering.

Another object of the present invention is to provide a brush, such as, in particular, a brush and a method for manufacturing such a brush, which is easy to handle.

Another object of the present invention is to provide a brush, such as, in particular, a bottle brush as well as a process for manufacturing such a brush, the manufacture of which remains simple and the cost reduced. Other objects and advantages of the invention will emerge during the description which follows which is given for information only and which is not intended to limit it.

The invention relates first of all to a brush such as, in particular, a bottle brush, consisting of bristles subject to a stiffening support, characterized in that said bristles consist at least of metallic fibers.

The invention also relates to a method of manufacturing such a brush in which metallic fibers are subjected to a stiffening support to form said brush.

The invention will be better understood on reading the following description, accompanied by the accompanying drawings which form an integral part thereof and among which - FIGS. 1a to 1c illustrate in lateral view different examples of embodiment of the brush according to the invention, - the figures in 2f are sectional views taken along line II-II shown in the preceding FIG. 1c, each illustrating different embodiments of the detail of the brush according to the invention, - the figure is a side view of another embodiment of the brush according to the invention, - Figures and 4b are sectional views along the line IV-IV shown in the previous figure, illustrating two different stages of manufacture.

The invention relates first of all to a brush, such as, in particular, a brush.

As illustrated in FIGS. 1 a to l c, it is made up of bristles 2, subject to a stiffening support 1. By subject, it is intended to be fixed in an irremovable manner, unless it is torn away involuntarily. According to the invention, said bristles consist at least of metallic fibers. Thus, by adding a stiffening support to the metallic fibers, these are made more manageable and it is then possible to reach areas which are difficult to access.

Different qualities of metallic fibers can be used, for example high grade and fine grade metallic fibers, mixed together. In such a case, the high grade fibers make it possible to produce scratches on the surface of the brushed object, in particular with a view to facilitating the attachment of a weld, while the grade fibers are intended for cleaning. We can also complete the metallic fibers with fibers of other types. Said metallic fibers are, for example, steel.

Said brush comprises, for example, at least one layer 3 of fibers, made up of said metallic fibers.

The said layer or layers 3 are held, at their core, on the said support 1 so as to leave the fibers at the surface of the brush flexible. There is then a larger useful surface area of fibers 2 for brushing.

Such an arrangement allows the fibers to grip onto each other to ensure and reinforce the coherence of the said layer or layers.

Said support 1 consists, for example, of at least one elongated element 4, defining over a part of its length a handle 5, and having, on the other part, the one or more layers of fibers 3.

Said handle 5 is used, in particular, for manual gripping of the brush. It could also be used, for example, to allow the fixing thereof on a tool, for example a portable electric tool, developing a rotary and / or reciprocating movement.

Said handle 5 is, in particular, rigid, for example metallic in one or more parts. It may have a cylindrical shape.

Said layer or layers 3 of fibers are located, for example, around said elongated element 4. They are, in particular, wound around the latter and are themselves elongated in parallel. They have, for example, a stepped section, as in FIG. 1a, regularly decreasing, as in FIG. 1b, or constant, as in FIG. 1c.

As illustrated in Figures 2a to 2f, said section is, in particular, respectively circular, oval, square, rectangular, triangular, more generally polygonal or even arbitrary.

Said elongate element 4 may be provided to be scored, at least at the part presenting the said layer or layers 3, in order to allow a progressive elimination of these as the fibers wear out. In FIG. 3, part 13 of the brush is thus observed corresponding to the end of the latter in the initial state but which was subsequently cut out due to its wear.

As illustrated in FIGS. 3 to 5, the brush according to the invention optionally has a mattress 6 of fibers, made up of said metallic fibers 2, said mattress 6 being made up of at least one layer 3 of metallic fibers.

So as to ensure the coherence of the mattress as a function of the distribution of the layer (s) 3 on the support 1, said layers 3 are subject to the latter and deformed by allowing a grip between them of some of the fibers 7, 8 distant from each other in the said layer (s) 3 before deformation.

Thus, from layers 3 of reduced width and / or thickness, it is possible to obtain a homogeneous mattress 6, the dimensions of which are larger without requiring additional layers 3.

As more particularly illustrated in Figures and 4, said support 1 is constituted, for example, of two rods 9, in particular metal rods between which a said fiber layer 2 is disposed. Said rods 9, 10 are twisted one around the other way blocking said layer 3 of fibers and forming said mattress 6 fibers around said rods 9, 10 in a helical distribution of said layer 3. In FIG. 3, the outline of the mattress and the trace of the helix are illustrated in lines mixed. According to this embodiment, said layer 3 of fibers 2 is for example, before substantially parallelepipedal deformation of small thickness e, as illustrated in FIG. 4a. The fibers 7, 8 gripping each other while they are provided at a distance in said deformed layer 3 are those located on the longitudinal sides of said parallelogram, said fibers 7, 8 gripping each other as and as the layer 3 is wound in a helix. In addition, the twisted arrangement of the rods 9, 10 makes it possible to hold said fibers 2 by clamping against one another, as illustrated in FIG. 4b.

According to such an embodiment, the handle 5 can be produced by extending the rods 9, 10, twisted one on the other, according to a step possibly smaller than that encountered at the level of the mattress 6.

As more particularly illustrated in FIG. 5, according to another embodiment, said support 1 has on a part at least of its length a slot 11, capable of allowing the introduction of a longitudinal end 12 of said layer 3 of fibers. Said mattress 6 is formed by winding said layer of fibers over several thicknesses.

The fibers 7, 8 gripping each other while they are distant in the non-deformed layer 3 are those located on the upper and lower faces of the thin parallelogram constituting said layer 3.

According to such an embodiment, the maintenance of the fibers 2 on the support 1 is ensured by the winding of the layer 3 on itself around said slot 11. The latter may possibly have undulations in order to reinforce this maintenance.

Still according to this embodiment, the handle 5 is made up, in particular, by extending said support 1, not split, beyond said mattress 6.

According to other embodiments, the said layer or layers may be fixed to said support 1, by gluing, welding, crimping others. According to the various examples of implementation mentioned above, it can be seen that one can effectively define with a brush according to the invention, in particular, swabs.

The invention also relates to a method of manufacturing such a brush. According to the latter, metallic fibers are subjected to a stiffening support 1 to form said brush.

According to a particular embodiment, at least one layer 3 of fibers is provided, consisting of said metal fibers in which the fibers grip each other to ensure the consistency of said layer (s) 3.

A mattress 6 of fibers is then formed, made up of said metal fibers 6. For this, said layer or layers are subjected to said support 1 by deforming said layer or layers 3 and allowing some of the fibers 2 distant from each other to be gripped together in the said layer or layers 3 before deformation, so as to ensure the consistency of the mattress 6 as a function of the distribution of the layer or layers 3 on the support.

In order to improve the regularity of the mattress 6 on the surface, it will be possible to cut said fibers 2 by adjusting its final volume to the desired format. This is done, for example, by mowing, compression, electrical welding or the like.

By way of nonlimiting example, said mattress 6 obtained, as illustrated in FIGS. 3 and 4, by clamping said layer 3 of metallic fibers 2 between two rods 9, 10, while maintaining said two rods 9, 10 at a 14 from their ends and causing rotation at the other end. This creates a twist trapping the layer 3 of fibers 2, for example in the manner of a brush.

Naturally, other modes of implementation, within the reach of those skilled in the art, could have been envisaged without departing from the scope of the invention.

Claims (10)

<B> CLAIMS </B> 1. Brush, such as, in particular, bottle brush, consisting of bristles subject to a stiffening support (1), characterized in that said bristles (2) consist at least of metallic fibers. 2. Brush according to claim 1, comprising at least one layer of fibers, consisting of said metallic fibers the said layer or layers being held at the core on said support so as to leave the fibers (2) flexible on the surface, and in which the fibers cling to each other to ensure consistency the one or more layers (3). 3. Brush according to claim 2, wherein said support (1) consists of at least one elongated element (4) defining over a part of its length a handle (5) and having on the other part or said layers (3) fibers (2). 4. Brush according to claim 2 or having a mattress (6) fibers, consisting of said metallic fibers said mattress being constituted by at least one said layer (3) of metallic fibers, the said layer or layers (3) being subject to said support (1 ) deformed by allowing a grip between them of some of the fibers 8) distant from each other in the said layer or layers (3) before deformation, so as to ensure the consistency of the mattress (6) as a function of the distribution of the layer or layers (3) on the support (1). 5. Brush according to claim 4 wherein said support (1) consists of two rods (9, 10) between which is disposed a said layer of metal fibers, said rods (9, 10) being twisted one around the other so as to block said layer (3) of fibers and to form said mat (6) of fibers around said rods (9, 10), in a helical distribution of said layer (3). 6. Brush according to claim 4, wherein said support (1) has on a part at least of its length a slot (11), adapted to allow the introduction of a longitudinal end (12) of said layer (3 ) of metallic fibers, said mattress (6) being formed by winding said layer of fibers over several thicknesses. 7. A brush according to claim 3, in which said elongated element is provided for breaking at least at the part presenting the said layer or layers in order to allow a progressive elimination of these as the fibers wear out ( 2). 8. A method of manufacturing a brush according to claim 1, in which metallic fibers (2) are subjected to a stiffening support (1) to form said brush. 9. Method according to claim 8, in which - at least one layer (3) of fibers, consisting of said metallic fibers (2), is provided, in which the fibers grip each other to ensure the consistency of said layer or layers (3), - a mattress (6) of fibers is formed, made up of said metallic fibers (6), by subjecting said layer or layers to said support) and by deforming said layer or layers (3), by allowing them to be gripped some of the fibers (7, 8) spaced from one another in the said layer (s) (3) before deformation, so as to ensure consistency of the mattress (6) as a function of the distribution of the said layer (s) (3) on the support ( 1). 10. The method of claim 9, wherein the fibers of the mattress (6) are cut to adjust its final volume.
