Abstract

A method for gelifying a carbon-based solvent composition is described. The gel-type cleaning composition includes one or more carbon-based solvents, one or more gelling agents and one or more polar solvents, as well as, optionally, a miscibility-promoting agent. The gelling agent is a finely divided silicon dioxide and the polar solvent is ethanol. The composition preferably includes petrol C, petrol E and petrol F. The method for producing such a gel includes the following steps: a) at least one carbon-based solvent and one gelling agent are mixed to produce a paste, b) a polar solvent is added to the paste to provide a gel and c) at least one carbon-based solvent is optionally added to the gel thus obtained. Application as a cleaning composition, particularly for chewing gum and graffitis.

Description

The present invention relates to a gelling process for a composition of carbon-based solvents and, more particularly, to the manufacture of a gel for a liquid cleaning composition based on carbon-based solvents. The invention further relates to a carbon solvent gel and its application for the removal of chewing gum.

The extraction of chewing gum on sidewalks, woods, stones, carpets, etc, poses an almost insoluble problem and, neither large cities nor large administrations, for example, transport companies, have successfully resolved the problem.

The extraction of chewing gums is most often done using scrapers, which has the disadvantage of leaving gum residue on the floors, or outright deteriorating the supports on which the chewing gums are located .

Also known are cryogenic bombs or cold bombs which make it possible to harden the chewing gums but a major drawback is that fibers are torn from the support when the gums are removed.

US-A-5 080 821 describes a composition for removing graffiti and chewing gum. This composition includes
from 25 to 70% of denatured alcohols of the ethanol type,
30 to 75% of a mixture of carbon-based solvents.

Le mélange de solvants comprend
de 10 à 35 % en volume d'essence C
de 5 à 25 % en volume d'essence E ; et
de 25 à 50 % en volume d'essence F.
The solvent mixture includes
from 10 to 35% by volume of gasoline C
from 5 to 25% by volume of gasoline E; and
25 to 50% by volume of gasoline F.

However, such a composition has a major drawback, namely that the carbon-containing solvents evaporate very quickly and, in hot weather, they do not have time to act completely on the chewing gums. This phenomenon is further reinforced when the chewing gums adhere to stony surfaces such as granite, marble or tar on sidewalks or roads. Indeed in hot weather, it is well known that granite and marble accumulate heat and that it is the same for tar which can even melt.

Similarly, if a neighboring composition consisting of a mixture of essences is used to remove the graffiti, when the composition is sprayed on a vertical surface, the composition tends to flow and the quantity of composition in contact with the graffiti in is reduced, which makes the product much less effective.

In addition, hydrocarbon solvents are used for many cleaning applications and it is generally desired that they only evaporate as slowly as possible for obvious safety reasons and for prolonged action.

L'invention vise donc à pallier ces inconvénients. The invention therefore aims to overcome these drawbacks.

An object of the invention is therefore to provide a gel of carbon-based solvents.

Another object of the invention is to provide a cleaning composition for graffiti which does not drip.

Yet another object of the invention is to provide a cleaning composition for chewing gums, this composition evaporating very slowly and acting in a few minutes on chewing gums.

A fourth aim of the invention is to provide a process for the production of carbon-based solvents, preferably hydrocarbon-based solvents, in the form of gels.

The following description with reference to the non-limiting examples appended will make it possible to understand how the invention can be put into practice.

Exemple caiparatif 1
On réalise la composition suivante:
essence C: 30 % en volume ;
essence E: 10 % en volume
éther monométhylique de dipropylèneglycol: 30 % en volume;
essence F: 10 % en volume
essence A: 20 % en volume.
Caiparative example 1
The following composition is produced:
gasoline C: 30% by volume;
essence E: 10% by volume
dipropylene glycol monomethyl ether: 30% by volume;
essence F: 10% by volume
essence A: 20% by volume.

This composition removes chewing gum, but because it evaporates in 2 minutes, its action is incomplete and there are residues on porous surfaces and on stones or tar.

Exemple 1
Example 1
10% of finely divided silicon dioxide and 90% of gasoline C are mixed and a paste is obtained. Then, a polar solvent, for example ethanol, is added to this paste until a gel is obtained.

The cleaning composition of the comparative example is then added to this gel at the rate of 80% of composition and 20% of gel. A composition is obtained in the form of a gel which, when it is acted on chewing gums which are on stones, evaporates very slowly. After 10 minutes, the chewing gums fully retract and detach from the support without leaving any traces. In addition, the amount of product required to remove the gums is very low, since it is not necessary to spray the composition several times on the gums.

Exemple comparatif 2
On réalise la composition suivante:
essence C: 30 % en volume
essence E: 20 % en volume
éther monométhylique de dipropylèneglycol: 30 % en volume;
essence F: 10 % en volume
essence A: 10 % en volume.
Comparative example 2
The following composition is produced:
gasoline C: 30% by volume
essence E: 20% by volume
dipropylene glycol monomethyl ether: 30% by volume;
essence F: 10% by volume
essence A: 10% by volume.

This composition removes graffiti, but it tends to flow down when it is placed on a vertical or inclined surface. Thus, we are forced to spray the product several times on the surface, which results in waste.

Exemple 2
Example 2
A gel is produced by taking the composition of the previous example. The gel obtained is then sprayed onto a surface containing graffiti. This composition does not drip and it is not necessary to deposit it repeatedly on the surface to be cleaned. We therefore use much less product.

Although we have described what are currently considered to be the preferred embodiments of the present invention, it is obvious that a person skilled in the art can make various changes and modifications without departing from the scope of the present. invention as defined below.
