Abstract
The lens (6) is configured such that the average transparency it presents to light rays entering the central part (7) of the pupil is lower than the transparency for rays entering the lateral parts (8) of the pupil. The lens may be implanted into the eye, replacing the natural crystalline lens, or may be a contact lens. The front (9) and rear (10) surfaces of the lens are formed with central surface areas of reduced transparency relative to their peripheries. The reduced transparency surfaces may be circular, square, triangular or another polygonal shape. The central portion of different transparency defines a cone of angle approx. 90? with the optical axis of the eye.
