Abstract

Improvements to the elements of electrical connector housings of the type comprising a body (1) having a channel (2) intended to receive an electrical contact member (4) crimped at one end of a conductor (5) and a cover (2) having, on its bottom (24), at least one hole (25) for the passage of the conductor (5), characterized in that the cover (2) is partly filled with a self-healing plastic material and means are provided for maintaining said cover (2) in a standby position in which it is remote from the rear end of the body (1) for the installation of the electrical contact member (4) through the self-healing material (30) and in a locking position in which, after the positioning of the contact member (4), the self-healing material is compressed between the bottom of the cover and the rear end (14) of said body (1).

  Thanks to the invention, the cover being in

  key comprises, erecting from its bottom, a plate intended to cooperate with the ramp in order to be guided towards

  one end of the contact member.

  fully engaged in the channel and is not locked

  When the cover is pushed in towards the locking position, the plate abuts against the contact member and pushes the latter towards the bottom of the channel so as to be assured

locking.

  The invention will now be described in more detail with reference to embodiments

  individuals given by way of example only and shown

  shown in the accompanying drawings, in which: Figure 1 is an exploded perspective view

  of a housing element of a connector according to the invention.

  Figure 2 shows, in exploded perspective, a

  variant embodiment of the invention.

  Figures 3, 4 and 5 are cross-sectional views

  In the various figures, there is shown a male housing element intended to cooperate with an element

  corresponding female housing. It is obvious that the in-

  vention applies equally well to a male housing element

  than a female housing element. Also in the mo-

  of the embodiments shown, the electrical contact member

  that is female, but it could perfectly be male or hermaphrodite. Finally, the housing element shown in the drawings is one-way, but it could perfectly

  The housing member of Figure 1 includes

  a main body 1 and a cover 2. The body 1 is cy-

  lindrique and presents a channel 3 intended to receive an or-

  female electrical contact gane 4 crimped at the end of an electrical conductor 5 and having, at the end opposite to the conductor, an elastic clamp 6 intended to receive a male tab, one of the side walls being provided with a opening 7 for fixing in the

channel 3.

  The housing element of Figure 2 is the same

  type as that of Figure 1, its shape being parallelepi-

  pedic instead of being cylindrical and in FIG. 2, the references used to designate different are shown

  elements of FIG. 1 to designate the corresponding elements

  of Figure 2, but assigned the letter "a".

  Figures 3, 4 and 5 show, in axial section,

  both the mode of FIG. 1 and that of FIG. 2.

  Channel 3 has, internally, a barret-

  locking device 8 elastically mounted and terminated by a hook 9 intended to cooperate with the opening 7. The member 4 is intended to be engaged by an introduction opening 11 located at the rear end

  14 of the body 1 and to abut against a shoulder 12 in the vicinity

  swim which is made a slot 13 for the passage of a male tongue (not shown). In this position, the hook 9 cooperates with the edge of the opening adjacent to

  the shoulder 12 so that the member 4 is blocked.

  The lateral surface of the body 1 comprises, deca-

  angularly 180, two first teeth 16, these teeth being located in the vicinity of the end provided with the insertion opening 11. On the lateral surface of the body 1 are also provided a pair of second teeth 17 aligned with the first teeth 16 and offset

  towards the end provided with the slot 13.

  The introduction opening 11, on the side of the

  locking bar 8, has an inclined ramp 19.

  The cover 2 has a skirt 21 with a

  bottom 24 pierced with a central hole 25.

  In the skirt 21 are made pairs of slots 22 offset by 180 and delimiting tongues

elastic 23.

  Each elastic tongue 23 has, at its

  free end and on its internal face, a hook 26 pre-

  feeling an inclined ramp 26b and an abrupt 26c.

  From the bottom 24 a plate 28 is erected.

  The bottom 24 and the opening 25 are lined with a plastic material or a gel called "self-healing" 30, that is to say, a material which is flexible and elastic and which allows it to be deformed or perforated and which tends

to return to its original form.

  The cover 2 is placed in a position of-

  tent, that is, a position in which the hooks

  26 cooperate with the pair of first teeth 16, then the

  gane 4 is engaged in the opening 25, the material 30 of which is deformed to allow the passage of said member 4,

  him being pushed until he comes into his posi-

  locking position (see Figure 4) then the cover 2 is pushed so that the hooks 26 escape the teeth 16 and come, by their abrupt 26c, cooperate with the

  teeth 17, the cover thus occupying a ver-

rusting (see figure 5).

  In this position, the material 30 is

  compressed between the end of the body 1 adjacent to the opening

  introduction ture 11, and surrounds the crimping part

  ge of the member 4 and the corresponding end of the conduc-

  tor 5 so that the seal is achieved.

  When the cover is pushed from the posi-

  waiting position (fig. 4) to the locked position

  lage (fig. 5), the plate 28 cooperates with the ramp 19

  and abuts against the end of the side wall of the gold-

  gane 4 so that, if it was not perfectly in place, engaging the cover towards the position of

  locking ensures the correct positioning of said gold-

gane 4.

  Of course, the invention is not limited to the embodiments which have just been described and

  represented. Many modifications can be made

  details without going beyond the framework of the in-

vention.

R E V E N D I C A T IONS   1. Improvements to the elements of electrical connector housings of the type comprising a body (1) having, at least, a channel (2) intended to receive, at least, an electrical contact member (4) crimped at one end of a conductor (5) and comprising, in the channel   (2), means (8, 9) for locking said contact member   electric touch (4) and a cover (2) intended to be mounted   tee on a rear end (14) of the body (1) and present   as long, on its bottom (24), at least one hole (25) for the passage-   driver's guide (5), characterized in that the cover   key (2) is partly filled with self-adhesive plastic   healing and means are provided for maintaining said cover (2) in a first waiting position in which it is distant from the rear end of the body (1) and in which the electrical contact member (4)   can be engaged in the hole (25) in the bottom (24) of the cover   key (2) through the self-healing material (30) to be placed in the channel (2) and in a second locking position in which, after the setting   place of the contact member (4), the self-healing material   health is compressed between the bottom of the lid and   the rear end (14) of said body (1).   2. Improvements to the housing elements according to claim 1, characterized in that the body (1) comprises, on its side wall, at least two teeth (16, 17), one of which is located in the vicinity of the end   rear (14) and the other offset towards the other end of the   said body, while the cover (2) has a skirt   (23) intended to engage on the body (1) and in which   the is cut, at least, an elastic tongue (23) having, on its internal face, a hook (26) intended to cooperate, selectively, with the teeth (16 and 17) for   hold the cover in both positions.   3. Improvements to the housing elements according to claim 1, characterized in that the channel (2), on the side of the rear end of the body (1), has a flared part forming a ramp (19), while the   cover has, erecting from its bottom, a plate-   te (28) intended to cooperate with the ramp in order to be guided   delivered to one end of the contact member.
