Abstract

The components of the joint prosthesis are sealed to support members independent of the body portions which they replace. The components include a hollow acetabulum cup (2) which is secured to a support plate (1) of inert material, which may be bio-absorbable or not, and which is grafted into a bone surface. The cup receives the spherical head (3) of a femoral component having a tail-type support component (6) similarly grafted into a bone portion. Different configurations of support component are provided for alternative femoral implantation procedures. ADVANTAGE - Standardised joint components, with reduced operating time resulting from greater range of flexibility of bone attachment.
