Abstract

The device is an external fixator intended for osteosynthesis of non-articular fractures of the upper end of the femur. It is composed of a curved bar (1) which joins the ends of two groups of pins (2, 3) introduced respectively in the neck of the femur and at the anterior face of the top of the femoral diaphysis. The connection bar (1) occupies a quarter circle facing the antero- external part of the hip. The connection bar (1) may be telescopic. The connection pieces (7, 8) are pivotally mounted at the ends of the bar (1) and receive the two groups of pins in a mutually perpendicular plane.

Osteosynthesis of pertrochanteric fractures is usually provided by internal material (nail, plate or screw-plate). Their placement involves an "open" surgical intervention, to deposit it against the upper end of the femur.

Claims

1 - External fixator for percutaneous osteosynthesis of non-articular fractures of the upper end of the femur, characterized in that it comprises a securing bar (1) comprising, at its ends, two groups of plugs (2,3) contained in planes perpendicular to each other, namely a first group of cards (2) inserted into the neck of the femur at an inclination of about 1300 relative to the axis of the femoral shaft and in a frontal plane, and a second group of cards (3) inserted from front to back in the upper part of the femoral diaphysis, in the sagittal plane.

2 - Device according to claim 1, characterized in that the part (1) has the shape of a segment of a circle, in order to be placed in front of the antero-external face of the hip.

3 - Device according to claims 1 and 2, characterized in that the securing bar 1 is composed of two telescopic parts (4,5) allowing it to adapt to the spacing of the plugs and to the shape of the antero face -external of the hip.

4 - Device according to claim 3, characterized in that the two telescopic parts (4,5) of the securing bar (1) can be locked to each other to the desired length by a clamping means.

5 - Device according to claims 1 to 3, characterized in that at each end of the bar (1) is pivotally mounted a fixing piece (7,8) receiving the end of the plugs (2,3) of the one of the two groups of plugs, these parts being able to be immobilized with respect to it by means of an appropriate clamping means.
