Abstract

The invention relates to an apparatus physically having the appearance of a calculator provided with a small printer and comprising nine keys. The apparatus is therefore portable; it is intended to follow the golf player around the course, so as to record, after each stroke, the characteristics of this stroke and, at the end of the game, by virtue of the technical possibilities offered by the electronics, to enable the performance achieved in the course of the preceding game to be shown and thus analysed.

For several years, portable calculators have been developed, followed by devices allowing data to be entered in the field, elements which are then transmitted to a computer for processing. This extreme flexibility is indeed required in certain very particular applications. (Construction sites, airports, rail yards for example).

The game of golf, if it responds to sporting considerations, also draws heavily on technical notions, so the player has a certain number of clubs, each one responding best to the stroke to hit. On the field, the player uses the one that seems most suitable to him. The player can, in competition or individually carry out a statement of his performances according to the club used, in the current state of the technique, no mechanized process is at his disposal.

The invention makes it much more practical (more pencil, more weather-sensitive paper) the player simply takes a keyboard with keys on which he will enter the characteristics of the different strokes and can later establish a balance sheet of his course.

The golf machine consists of two parts which are intended to be separated during use, - on the one hand a box comprising a 2x40 character screen: LCD liquid crystal screen, and on the same module, a new keyboard keys; - a thermal printer with a width of 40 characters.

The box is carried on the ground, printer; at least in the current state of the art not being portable. It must therefore be added that the first box is powered independently (batteries)
The machine consists of a tailor-made electronic card comprising a microprocessor 280 and a number of integrated electronic components, the exhaustive list of which is given below - an 8255 - 4 X 74 LS - a capacity of 100 microfarads - a series of resistances and capacities - a crystal of 3.57 Mghz
The whole being placed on a printed circuit, powered by battery operating with a thermal printer of 32 characters in width, as was said above, this printer being non-graphic.

The intelligence of the machine is constituted by an EPROM of 128
Kbits in which the whole program called "machine program is saved.

The program used to analyze the game by the golfer being qualified as an application program.

Before the start of the game, the user enters three data: - the nature of the surface used: course or practice, - the climatic condition "the atmosphere", - the club (wood or iron) and in the latter case the number used.

After each stroke, the player enters the result of said stroke by means of the following three indications: - the characteristics of the impact, - the strike direction, - the length of the stroke.

 on request, or at the end of the course, the machine provides statistical analysis of the game according to the parameters provided.

For the realization, it is necessary, in addition to the elements indicated above, to have at the same time: a thermal printer of forty columns, a box comprising a 2x40 column LCD liquid crystal screen and a keyboard with nine buttons as well as a supply which will be done by batteries.

The electronic part comprising a microprocessor 280 and a printer interface.

The electronic part also includes a RAM and an EPROM in which the program is located.

By nature, the invention does not seem susceptible of industrial application, its field is that of the game, even if its developments are likely to be significant taking into account the importance assumed by this game.
