Abstract

The invention relates to a method making it possible to compress a helical damper spring in a very short time, without effort and with an optimum degree of safety. The tool consists of a notched sole-plate 1 with a rotating base, of a channel 2 for holding the damper 3, and of two square orifices 4 for receiving the lower hooks 5 of the compressing assemblies. The compressing assemblies are each formed of a forged hook 6 which can be adjusted by telescopic positioning and locked by a bolt 7, and this hook is securely fastened to an articulation 8 itself provided with a square tube 9 into which the lever arm 10 is introduced. When the user exerts traction on the lever arms 10 to bring them into a parallel position, the hooks 6 descend, compressing the spring; four holes 11 are then aligned and receive safety pins 12. The tool is intended for compressing helical automobile suspension springs of the "MacPherson" type.
