Abstract

Method whereby it is possible to leave intact the condition and colours of butterflies placed in a case whilst retaining a refractive index in the resin similar or identical to that of air. It consists in depositing a first layer of resin 1 to which is fixed the butterfly 2 protected by a transparent container 3 containing a gas 4, a mixture of gases 4 or under vacuum 4, the whole being protected by a second layer of resin 5. This method is particularly intended for butterflies and other insects, animals, fish, flowers, plants and all objects requiring such a method. It applies to conservation (collections), museums, decorative arts, etc.

Description

The present invention relates to a method for leaving intact the natural state and colors of insects in inclusion.

Generally, the inclusion of an insect (for example, a butterfly such as the "MORPHO ') in a resin, alters the colors, makes the blues disappear, makes the butterfly translucent, and silver parts corresponding to areas of separation may appear, it is distorted and loses its beauty.

The method according to the invention overcomes these drawbacks.

I1 indeed comprises a transparent or colored resin which can have any shape in which is incorporated a transparent receptacle also of various shapes and forming a pocket behind which the butterfly is fixed. The mounting process allows this pocket to be filled with air, vacuum, gas or gas mixtures. This pocket thus makes it possible to find a refractive index similar or identical to that of the outside air and prevents the alteration of the colors by the resin.

This process can be carried out with a polyester resin and a glass receptacle. The basic execution requires two casting operations, a first resin casting of variable thickness which after "gelling" receives the butterfly. This butterfly is held on this first casting by any method of fixing (gluing, stapling, pin, etc.).

Then the butterfly receives a receptacle which completely encloses it and which is glued to the first casting. Finally, after a drying time of 15 to 30 minutes, a second casting of resin of variable thickness is applied. After demolding, the surfaces are polished. The number of castings can be greater than 2 depending on the final thickness that we want to give to the inclusion.

Figure 1 shows, in section, the method according to the invention.

The method shown in Figure I consists of a first resin casting (1) on which is fixed the butterfly (2). The butterfly (2) is enclosed under a transparent receptacle (3) which is covered with a second resin flow (5). The gas (4) contained behind the transparent receptacle (3) can be replaced by a vacuum (4) or gas mixtures (4).

The process according to the invention is particularly intended for butterflies (for example "MORPHOS") and other insects, flowers, animals, fish, plants and all objects requiring such a process and is intended for conservation (collections), museums, decorative Art
