Abstract

The breaker is formed of a differential actuator mechanically coupled to a circuit breaker element, both of which are housed in separate blocks. The device prevents disconnection of the two units. An electrical link joins the differential actuator and the input and output terminals of the circuit breaker block. A connector cover is screwed onto the two blocks so as to prevent any disconnection of the electric and mechanical links between the two blocks. The cover has a hook which fits under a loop fixed to the casing of one of the blocks. The two blocks are fitted to a support rail then fastened together with their operating mechanisms coupled together. It is made impossible to separate the two units without physical destruction, thus preventing incorrect alignment between the actuator and the contacts.

Description

DISPOSITIF D ' IllVIOLABiLITE D'UN DISJONCTEUR DIFFERENTIEL . DEVICE FOR THE IllVIOLABiLITY OF A DIFFERENTIAL CIRCUIT BREAKER.

The invention relates to a tamper-evident device for a differential circuit breaker constituted by the association of a differential trip control block and a circuit breaker block with molded case, the two blocks being joined and connected at least by a mechanical link for transmitting a trip order from the differential block to the circuit breaker block and by an electrical link between the differential block and the input or crimp terminals of the circuit breaker block.

French patent N 2,437,692 describes a differential circuit breaker of the kind mentioned, making it possible to give a standard circuit breaker with molded boltier the differential protection function by simple attachment of a differential trip unit. The need has arisen to make the combination of circuit breaker block and differential block inviolable, in order to avoid any disabling of the differential function. The user may be tempted to suppress differential protection when the installation presents an earth fault which is difficult to detect or repair, and the object of the present invention is to allow the realization of a tamper-proof device for the differential circuit breaker. .

The tamper-evident device according to the present invention is characterized in that it comprises a terminal cover element capable of being locked on the differential circuit breaker in an active position to prevent any disconnection of said electrical and mechanical connections between the differential block and the circuit breaker block.

The advantageously sealable terminal cover avoids outright electrical disconnection of the differential block, the user disconnecting the connecting conductors between the circuit breaker block and the differential block and directly connecting the operating circuit to the circuit breaker block.

The terminal cover on the other hand avoids any mechanical separation between the circuit breaker block and the differential block liable to break the mechanical connection for transmitting a trip order to the circuit breaker block. By separating the two blocks, possibly after loosening the fixing screws, it was possible to disengage the mechanical connection elements between the two blocks and despite the detection of a differential fault by the differential block, the tripping order was no longer transmitted to the circuit breaker, which then normally supplied the operating circuit without 1. providing differential protection.

The terminal cover is advantageously made in the form of a cover which covers the conductors of the electrical connection between the two blocks. The terminal cover is connected and is secured to an ear provided on the case of the differential unit, so as to cover the orifice for passage of the electrical connecting conductors. The connection between the terminal cover and the differential block can be achieved by a snap-in hook during the installation of the terminal cover, the latter being secured to the circuit breaker block by a sealable screw. It is obvious that the mechanical connection between the terminal cover and the differential block can be achieved by a second sealable screw or that the connection of the terminal cover with the two blocks can be achieved by other tamper-evident means, for example by snap-fastening, the separation of which involves destruction of the elements link.

Other advantages and characteristics will emerge more clearly from the description which follows of an embodiment of the invention, given by way of nonlimiting example and shown in the appended drawings, in which FIG. 1 is a diagrammatic elevation partially broken away, of a tamper-evident device according to the invention, the terminal cover cover being shown in the removed position; Figure 2 is a bottom view of Figure 1, the terminal cover cover being assumed posed; Figure 3 is a partial view of Figure 1 showing the terminal cover in the mount position; Figure 4 is a schematic perspective view of the terminal cover cover and the associated latching ear secured to the differential unit.

We recognized the differential block 10, associated with the bipolar block 12, the coupled levers 14, the mechanism 2C of the differential block, the mechanical link 24 between the mechanism 20 and the levers 14, the mechanical trigger link 22 acting on the trigger bar. 16 of the circuit breaker 12, the electrical connecting conductors 17 between the blocks 10 and 12, the test button 72 and the trip indicator 62. We will advantageously refer to the aforementioned French patent for further details, and it suffices to recall that the conductors 17 connected to the output terminals of the circuit breaker 12 connect the circuit breaker 12 and differential 10 blocks in series, and that a differential fault detected by this last block causes tripping of the circuit breaker 12.

A terminal cover 32 can be adapted to the circuit breaker block 12 after association of the blocks 10, 12 to cover the conductors 17 and the terminals 34 of the circuit breaker block 12 receiving the conductors 17. The terminals 34 can be the input or breaker 12 output according to a downstream or upstream connection of the differential unit. The terminal cover 32 extends over the entire width of the circuit breaker unit 12 to connect to an ear 36 of the differential unit 10 covering the orifices for passage of the conductors 17. The terminal cover 32 extends in the direction of the unit differential 10 by lugs of cen trag 38 and a locking hook 40 hooking in the assembled position of the terminal cover on a flange 42 carried by the ear 36. the presence of the hook 40 implies a pivoting movement for setting in place of the terminal cover 32, the latter being subsequently secured to the circuit breaker by a sealable screw 44 screwed into an orifice 46 formed in the circuit breaker block 12. The screw 44 may be a self-tapping screw and have a passage of a sealing wire. In the assembled position of the terminal cover 32 the conductors 17 and the terminals 34 are inaccessible making any electrical disconnection of the two blocks 10, 12 impossible. Locking by hook 40, flange 42 and fixing by the sealable screw 44 prevent on the other hand, any separation by sliding of the blocks 10, 12 on the DIN rail 30.

It is clear that the fixing of the terminal cover cover 32 on the blocks 10, 12 can be carried out by other tamper-proof means, for example by tamper-evident snaps, and that the mother idea of the present invention is the dual function of tamper-proof terminal cover of the electrical connection between the blocks 10, 12, and of the mechanical connection of these blocks.

Le fonctionnement découle de l'exposé précédent, et il suffit de remarquer que l'inviolabilité est réalisée par des moyens extrêmement simples, en l'occurrence l'adJonc- tion d'un crochet 40 de verrouillage au cache-bornes 32.The operation follows from the preceding description, and it suffices to note that the inviolability is achieved by extremely simple means, in this case the addition of a hook 40 for locking to the terminal cover 32.

et que l'invention est applicable à tout type de disjnc- teur différentiel réalisé par l'aecolement de deux blocs. and that the invention is applicable to any type of differential circuit breaker produced by the attachment of two blocks.
