Abstract

A three-dimensional puzzle consists of a hollow cube (1) of transparent material which contains 26 small cubes of equal size. The dimensions of the small cubes are such that 27 of them would fill the hollow cube so that with 26 small cubes there is an empty space equal to the volume of one small cube. Seven of the small cubes are joined together to form a three-dimensional cross and the remaining cubes are free to slide around this cross. The outer faces of the cubes in the cross are placed in the centres of respective faces of the large cube. The object of the puzzle is to place the mobile cubes in random order and then to shuffle them around, by tilting the hollow cube in the required direction, so that the cubes are re-arranged in a specified order. The faces of the cubes are coloured differently or have numbers or letters marked on them to indicate their correct orientation and position within the puzzle.

Le présent additif est relatif à la demande N 80-13578 et a pour objet d'apporter trois améliorations au puzzle tridimensionnel à cubes déplaçables par gravité, principalement sur le plan industriel. This addendum relates to application N 80-13578 and aims to provide three improvements to the three-dimensional puzzle with cubes displaceable by gravity, mainly on an industrial scale.

La premiere amélioration porte sur la réalisation de la croix tridimensio nelle qui, comme dans la demande principale, doit avoir exactement les dimensi, des sept cubes qui la composent pour que les cubes mobiles puissent glisser facilement par rapport aux autres cubes. The first improvement relates to the realization of the three-dimensional cross which, as in the main application, must have exactly the dimensions, of the seven cubes which compose it so that the mobile cubes can slide easily in relation to the other cubes.

Deux procédés de fabrication de cette croix sont possibles. Le premier consiste à fixer par collage ou assemblage les six cubes aux six faces du cube central, ce qui exige une grande précision de centrage et nécessite six opérations. Le deuxième consiste à procéder par moulage, en utilisant un moule ayant la forme de la croix. Cette solution exige la réalisation de deux moules, un pour la croix, l'autre pour les cubes. La seule conditio à respecter est que la longueur des pions soit supérieure au jeu total existant entre les cubes et la paroi interne de la boîte, de telle sorte que les cubes de la croix soient bien positionnés au centre de chacune des faces de la boîte.
