Abstract

The two telescopic elements (I,II) can slide relative to one another but no relative rotation is permitted so preventing relative rotation of the bones to which they are secured. The interior of the outer element (I) is formed with thickened contoured portions which overlie corresponding depressions in the outside of the inner element. Four leaf-like elements (10) are formed on the distal end of the inner element and these prevent rotation of the distal part of the fracture. The rotation of the proximal part of the fracture is prevented by a fixing piece (3) which is attached to the bone by a screw passing through two opposed holes formed in it.

Description

The present invention relates to a pipe-like support element for the reduction and containment of long bone fractures, preventing rotation of the bone fragments relative to each other.

The vast majority of known support elements of this kind do not adequately prevent rotation of fractured bone fragments and such support elements that prevent this rotation require excessive use of X-rays which poses a danger to persons in the operating room.

The support element according to the invention makes it possible to avoid these drawbacks. It is in fact formed of two main parts I and IL. The two parts can slide into each other and have a system preventing them from turning relative to each other. The part It has a diameter smaller than the part r and ending distally by four lamellas sufficiently elastic to open in a fan shape as soon as they leave part I for their anchoring in the cancellous part of the distal fragment of the fractured bone preventing its rotation. The rotation of the proximal bone fragment is prevented by a part fixed on the proximal end of part I and on the bone.

Its introduction, being as simple as the support elements of this kind, is done by piercing the bone at the level of its swollen part in order to create a passage in the medullary canal. Part 11 being introduced into part I, the support element for the whole is introduced into the medullary canal and once arrived in the region where this medullary canal widens, only the IS part is inserted, the distal end of which opens in a fan shape, due to the elasticity of the slats, from the exit - from part r. This automatic device blocks the rotation of the distal fragment of the fractured bone by minimizing radiological controls, unlike certain support elements of this kind.

blocking the proximal fragment is obtained by attaching part 3 to the proximal end of part I and to the bone under visual control and without any irradiation,
As shown, the support element in a longitudinal section has two parts t and It.

I. The proximal end of the part T has a thickening (4) preventing the part (3) from sliding along the part r. This thickening is followed by a hexagonal region (5) in which the hexagon of the part 3 fits. This hexagon is followed by a threaded region allowing the fitting of a nut to properly fix the part 3 in Part I.

A section along B B 'shows the thickenings (6) and the depressions (7) of the parts T and Tt. This system prevents the two parties from making rotational movements with respect to each other.

A section along C C 'shows the shape of part II at the insertion of the four strips a, b, c, d.

Each strip (D D ') is formed of the strip proper (10) and a thickening (11) on each side.
