Abstract

Brief case fastener combines prompt and positive closing of a magnetic catch with a mechanical restraint which holds it against movement at right angles to the magnetic force. When the fastening tab (2) is slid into the fixed part of the catch, the magnetic disc (3) it carries is attracted to a ferro-magnetic plate (9): the disc is thus drawn into a recess (3'). The tab (2) cannot now be withdrawn until it has been pushed flat against the face of the brief case; it can then be slid out upwards. The space in which it moves is purposely restricted so that it can only be freed by these two deliberate movements in perpendicular directions.
