Abstract

The sealing joint (1) has a sealing lip (2). The joint has a longitudinal groove (3) on one side, which is the fixing side of the joint. A metallic strip (4) is inserted in the groove and the groove is sealed by a double adhesive strip (5). The strip is covered with an outside silicone strip. The blade (4) allows handling of the seal and locating it into position. The seal is fixed by removing the silicone strip and leaving the adhesive strip exposed.

Description

Sealing or protective seal
Seals or protective elastomeric material are most often carried by a relatively rigid support, for example metal or plastic. There are also seals without support that are fixed by gluing or stapling. These joints are of a lower cost price, but their flexibility prevents a rectilinear installation, which harms the quality of the caulking in the case of a seal or the aesthetics in the case of a protective seal. In addition, fixing by stapling is not aesthetic and allows the sole of the joint to undulate, which in the case of the seal weakens the seal.

 The present invention has for object a seal or protection overcoming these drawbacks.

The joint seal according to the invention is characterized in that it is coated with an adhesive on its fixing face and comprises a recess in which is housed a stiffening insert and which is closed by the adhesive, the latter thus maintaining the insert in place.

 After the joint has been formed by extrusion, a strip of double-sided adhesive is unwound, the insert which is constituted for example by a metal blade is unwound, and it is fixed on the adhesive strip, then the assembly is fixed on the joint, the insert coming to be placed in the recess of this joint. We see that the manufacture of this seal is easy and much easier than if the insert was embedded in the mass of the seal. The insert stiffens the seal, which allows correct positioning thereof> and the adhesive ensures a fixing of said seal which is very aesthetic, no fixing member being visible.

Various embodiments of the joint according to the invention have been described below, by way of non-limiting examples, with reference to the appended drawing in which FIGS. 1 to 3 are sectional views of these various modes of production.

 In Figure 1, we see a seal 1 provided with a sealing book 2. This seal has a longitudi nal recess 3 which opens to the outside, on the side of the fixing face of the seal. A metal blade 4 is inserted into the recess 3 and the latter is closed by an adhesive strip 5 with double face. Before use, the strip 5 is coated externally with a film 6 comprising a non-stick coating, for example if unicorn.

The blade 4 allows easy handling and erection of the seal. To fix it on a wall, simply remove the non-stick film 6 and press the seal on the wall.

In FIGS. 2 and 3, protective seals 1 ′ and 1 are seen made in the same way, that is to say comprising internally a stiffening blade 4 disposed in a recess 3 of the seal and held in place by double-sided adhesive tape 5. These seals may for example be protective seals for doors of motor vehicles.

It goes without saying that the present invention should not be considered as limited to the embodiments described and shown, but on the contrary covers all variants thereof.
