Abstract

The rapid opening smoke outlet mounted on a building, and operated in the event of a fire, can be operated by springs, piston and cylinder mechanisms or by electrical devices. The device has a cover (14) which can be triangular in shape, viewed from the side, and mounted on swinging arms (16,18). These can operate as driving arms (16) and carrier arms (18) respectively, forming parallelograms swinging about pivot points. The size, position and angles of slope of these arms are selected to ensure that the discharge opening is completely unobstructed after operation, and that an air flow is established which will ensure complete smoke dispersal.
