Abstract

The design allows the depth of the winding slots to be kept to a minimum, and hence minimises the degree of flux distortion in the rotor. The slots are designed to take four round conductors and have two distinct sections. The deepest section has a width accommodating two conductors, one immediately above the other, and has a depth of approximately twice the conductor diameter. This section continues to the rotor surface as a wider section slot with an incurved surface, the width of the slot allowing the two remaining conductors to be displaced circumferentially with respect to each other. The slots have orthodox wall insulation e.g. varnish on paper.
